Berry Medicine has the honor of convening the Tribal Maternal Health Work Group (TMHWG). Formed in 2025, the TMHWG consists of dedicated and passionate tribal maternal health leaders and advocates that serve in roles that provide direct services, deliver maternal health education, or manage grant funding relevant to maternal health programs. Roles may include but not limited to, Tribal Council Members leading health initiatives, Tribal Health Directors, public health nurses, Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) employees, home visiting staff, maternal health program managers, educators, Traditional Healers, Elders, and birthworkers (i.e. doulas, midwives, etc.). 

The TMHWG is committed to strengthening maternal health by bridging Indigenous wisdom and clinical care, creating respectful partnerships that integrate traditional birthing practices, ceremonial support, and community-based healing within comprehensive maternal health services for Native families.

Feedback and collaboration with tribal maternal health leaders across Montana are vital to reducing maternal morbidity and mortality. Significant demographic and racial disparities exist in Montana for Native Families both in the utilization of and access to healthcare services, as well as overall maternal health outcomes. Tribal Communities have an immense amount of strength, resilience, and wisdom in supporting mothers and families. To advance systems and support communities, partners from impacted communities must be represented within the TMHWG planning process.
