Cultural Safety Practices Training

Berry Medicine offers specialized Cultural Safety Practices Training for serving Native Families, facilitated by Executive Director Dr. Amy Stiffarm, based on her Cultural Safety for Indigenous Women and Birthing People Toolkit. This training focuses on improving care for Indigenous patients and clients during the perinatal period.

The overall goal of this training is to better inform providers on how to offer culturally safe care by emphasizing continuous critical reflection, addressing power imbalances, and allowing the patient to determine whether a clinical encounter is safe. You will gain a deeper understanding of the contemporary impacts of colonization on Indigenous health and learn crucial historical and cultural contexts.

Who is this training for?

This training is designed to support non-Indigenous healthcare professionals who serve pregnant and postpartum patients. It is also highly beneficial for:

  • Anyone who provides care to Indigenous people

  • People with decision-making power within their organization

  • Employees of organizations or clinics that serve Indigenous people

  • Individuals seeking to broaden their understanding of cultural safety to better serve

  • Indigenous communities
